Media Release: Samsung collaborates with Camp Fire to launch tablet-based STEM curricula
Camp Fire today announced that it will collaborate with Samsung Electronics America, Inc. to deploy a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum to kindergarten through eighth graders in seven Camp Fire councils this month. This program will allow students to explore s STEM careers and concepts using new Samsung tablets. Camp Fire is proud to partner with Samsung to bring STEM curriculum and new technology to more than 700 youth.
Through hands-on activities, kids will learn about design and engineering concepts, STEM careers, and communicating their ideas to others within their communities more effectively. Samsung is providing select Camp Fire councils with Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 Education tablets so each child can participate efficiently. The curriculum has been customized to incorporate Camp Fire’s Thriving framework. Samsung’s new tablet technology will allow youth to experience STEM in a whole new way.

- Camp Fire Minnesota (St. Louis Park, Minn.)
- Camp Fire Alaska (Anchorage, Alaska)
- Camp Fire West Michigan (Grand Rapids, Mich.)
- Camp Fire Long Beach (Calif.)
- Camp Fire Green Country (Tulsa, Okla.)
- Camp Fire Central TX (Austin, Texas)

Camp Fire National Headquarters President and CEO Cathy Tisdale is equally excited, “This work will focus on reaching disadvantaged youth initially, a group who will benefit from learning about careers and concepts after school, in addition to the education they receive in school,” says Tisdale. “Through our work in programs like this around the country, we know our Camp Fire-trained, caring adult leaders help youth identify their sparks (their inner passions and skills) and provide them with a support system to succeed. By helping youth identify their sparks early, especially in STEM, we give them an opportunity to develop a growth mindset, gain self-confidence and learn along the journey. We can’t thank Samsung enough for their generosity and support.”
This program will kick off with the Heartland Council on January 27 in Kansas City, Kan. Kansas City, Mo., is the site of the Camp Fire National Headquarters. Additional events will follow at participating Camp Fire locations.
