Wohelo: The Highest Achievement
“Wohelo” stands for Work, Health, and Love—values that have been central to Camp Fire since our founding in 1910. The Wohelo Award is the highest achievement for youth in Camp Fire. This prestigious award, open to teens in grades 9 through 12, offers opportunities for personal development, leadership, and advocacy on important issues.
The award is earned by completing an intensive and highly individualized project. Teens design their projects based on their interests, values, and goals. Completing the requirements to earn the Wohelo Award takes hard work, dedication, motivation, creativity, determination, and discipline. The award demonstrates perseverance, the ability to set and achieve meaningful goals, a strong work ethic, commitment to community service, and leadership.
I remember, “With this light I light the light of Wohelo” but I can’t find any references to the ceremony. Help?
My sister and I were CampFire girls and our mom the leader. We had such great experiences . The girls started as BlueBirds if anyone remembers.
I started as a blue bird! Got my Wo-He-Lo in 1994. Camp Tawanki was my 2nd home (nickname Cinnamon), magical place I have always missed. Went to two national youth conference in Los Angeles and Wash DC. Tons of great memories. Best wishes Everyone. 😀
I was a member in the 1960’s, and this concept became a cornerstone of my life and work. My husband and I run a educational program called Chivalry for Children, and I guess you could say that WoHeLo inculcated into my worldview concepts that eventually became the program we teach.
