Executive Leadership Experience

October 13 – 14

Camp Fire’s Executive Leadership Experience (ELE) is assembled for all newly appointed council executives within the Camp Fire system. It is designed to ensure council alignment with Camp Fire’s promise, vision, and strategy for improved council effectiveness and sustainability by fostering experiential learning through a collaborative based experience. Throughout the sessions, participants build an understanding on how best to use Camp Fire’s internal tools, council data and key results in business planning to ensure a strong, sustainable Camp Fire Movement through effective partnerships between council board, CEO and National Headquarters.

National Leadership Conference

October 14 – 16

The National Leadership Conference (NLC) is held in odd-numbered years, usually in late October or early November. The conference is a meeting of all council representatives located in various locations around the country. Council presidents, board members, executives, and senior program leadership are invited to hear special keynote speakers and participate in a variety of training and recognition opportunities. This system-wide conference often presents direction-setting opportunities for the future of the organization.

Congress, Camp Fire’s biennial business meeting of the corporation, is held in conjunction with NLC. Each council sends voting delegates to Congress based on a formula related to the size of its membership. Congress votes on changes in bylaws, elects officers, and may adopt resolutions to be considered by the national board of trustees.

Youth Leadership Experience

October 14 – 16

Camp Fire’s Youth Leadership Experience (YLE) is a component of NLC for teens who help lead or advise their local councils. Youth attend NLC along with council leaders from around the country as we focus on making Camp Fire stronger, together while lifting youth voice. By participating in YLE, young people build the leadership capacity of their councils while demonstrating skills that empower them to better their schools, families, and communities.

Additional sessions for YLE are planned in conjunction with our National Youth Advisory Cabinet.

Promise to Practice

October 16 – 18

Promise to Practice” is Camp Fire’s annual program focused convening that offers in-person training opportunities for council program staff, interns, and volunteers.  Promise to Practice promotes collective peer-to-peer interaction and encourages sharing and learning among all workshop participants. The theoretical model of from “promise to practice” provides council program staff with professional development/training opportunities focused on orientation to core requirements, such as Thrive{ology}, sessions that prepare staff to lead newly revised or developed curricula, enhance targeted skill and knowledge areas, and topics identified by council participants as areas of greatest need and interest. The “Promise to Practice Roadshow” format is used in even-numbered years, with the traditional format used in odd-numbered years, often held back-to-back with the National Leadership Conference.  The “Roadshow” format is held at various council locations where attendees will have the opportunity to observe Camp Fire programs and features more intensive training on high-priority topics presented by nationally recognized experts.
