A strategic and innovative leader, Shawna Rosenzweig has worked in Positive Youth Development since 2010. Her expertise spans organizational strategy, fundraising, and scaling national partnerships. After joining Camp Fire in 2013, she rose through the ranks from director to chief strategy officer to president to her current role as CEO. During her tenure at the a the 115-year-old nonprofit organization that connects young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves, she has led culture change efforts and leadership transitions at the national office, and designed and launched efforts to strengthen belonging and access across the network, including creating a task force in partnership with the National Indian Education Association to address and end cultural appropriation in the Camp Fire organization.

Shawna has dedicated her career to supporting youth organizations to advance their missions through data-informed and client-centered approaches to learning, continuous improvement, and organizational effectiveness. Prior to Camp Fire, she worked as a program officer at the Thrive Foundation for Youth in the Bay Area and as a curriculum specialist at Global Kids in New York City. She also spent time in the Middle East, developing and facilitating educational material for various organizations promoting conflict resolution among teens in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, including Seeds of Peace, Just Vision, and Parents Circle-Families Forum.

A Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP), Shawna excels at bringing together diverse stakeholders to collaboratively design visions that enable organizations to grow and sustain initiatives and impact while keeping focused on equitably supporting young people. Committed to sharing her expertise and experience, she volunteers as vice chair for the National AfterSchool Association (NAA) board of directors, as a Character at Camp Initiative advisor for the American Camp Association, as an advisor for Youth Today, and as an advisory committee member for National Partnership for Student Success.

A true role model for creativity, curiosity, and inclusion, Shawna was recognized in 2024 as one of Worthy’s 100 impactful changemakers creating innovative impact in diverse fields such as art, entertainment, business, government, nonprofits, and philanthropy. She holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as a B.A. in sociology with a minor in education and applied psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. A lover of learning, she is passionate about creating positive change in the lives of young people, including her own two children. She lives in Seattle with her wife, their kids, and two dogs.

Tanna Abraham (she/her) brings nearly two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, program operations, and organizational strategy across national youth-serving organizations. Most recently, she served as Chief Program Officer at IGNITE, where she led national program strategy and execution, advancing young women’s leadership development and civic engagement. She previously held multiple leadership roles at After-School All-Stars, including Regional Program Manager, where she supported multi-site program delivery and operational growth.

Tanna holds an Executive MBA from Virginia Union University. She resides in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her son and bonus daughter. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, playing golf, watching movies, and is an avid Marvel enthusiast.

Emilia brings over a decade of experience in nonprofit youth development, with a focus on managing out-of-school-time programs for students in grades K-12. Her human-centered approach is grounded in relationship-building and a deep commitment to creating spaces where young people feel safe, seen, and empowered. Throughout her career, Emilia has led the design and delivery of high-quality youth programs that foster connection, confidence, and growth. In 2023, she was honored as a NextGen Leader by the National Afterschool Association for her contributions to the field.

Emilia holds a Master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University, with a concentration in social enterprise administration in family, youth, and children's services. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Temple University in Philadelphia.

Originally from New Jersey, Emilia spent nearly a decade in Philadelphia before settling in Denver, CO, where she lives with her husband, John, two cats (Cleocatra and Gus), and their dog, Carl. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring the outdoors—whether camping, snowboarding, or hiking—and unwinding with live music, great food, or a good book

Diana Cournoyer (Oglala Lakota) (she/her) is a transformational leader committed to serving Indigenous communities and Tribal governments. With over 25 years of experience in Indigenous education, advocacy, and community organizing, she is a visionary leader advancing tribal sovereignty through strategic advocacy, collaboration, and innovation.

As the driving force behind the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), Diana expanded the organization’s impact beyond Capitol Hill, reaching Native communities nationwide. Under her leadership, NIEA secured millions in grant funding, influenced teacher hiring initiatives, and strengthened partnerships supporting Native student success.

Recognized for her expertise in policy and education reform, Diana has testified before Congress and worked closely with tribes, educators, and researchers to implement culture-based educational practices. She led a dedicated team executing a nonprofit strategic plan focused on advocacy, tribal education capacity building, culture-based learning, and post-secondary success.

A Pahara Fellow, Diana is celebrated for her transformational leadership and advocacy for Indigenous and marginalized communities. She serves on several national and regional boards, including South Dakota Education Equity (SDEEC), Black Liberation Indigenous Solidarity (BLIS), and the Green Schools National Network (GSNN). She is also a dedicated mentor, empowering emerging Indigenous leaders and innovators to create sustainable solutions for tribal communities, governments, and education agencies—driving systemic change across governmental, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors. Diana is based in Rapid City, SD.

Nav Deol-Johnson (she/her) has worked with nonprofit and youth development organizations for more than 25 years. Nav began her career as a summer camp counselor at UCLA UniCamp. She previously worked with Camp Fire affiliates in California. Most recently, she was the National Program Operations Manager with Imagine Science, a national STEM collaboration of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Girls Inc., National 4-H Council and the YMCA of the USA.

Nav has a master’s degree in Social Work (Administration & Planning) from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Nav and her family currently live in Long Beach, CA. In their free time, they enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, and watching movies.

Julia is a digital marketer and self-taught graphic designer with a passion for making information fun and beautiful to digest. Julia started her professional journey in law school at University of Missouri Kansas City with the hopes of becoming an immigration lawyer. However, after her first year, she knew the lawyer life was not for her. She pivoted to join the Camp Fire marketing team as an intern in 2017, leading social media efforts and graphic design, and working her way up to brand manager. She has designed over 500 powerful documents, presentations, and branding assets, creating the entire look and feel of how Camp Fire shows up in the world today. Camp Fire's social media following has increased 111% and Camp Fire's email lists have increased 700% under Julia's leadership. Additionally, she led the National Youth Advisory Cabinet for five years.

Julia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Global Studies and Spanish from Missouri State University. In her free time, she loves to read cozy murder mysteries and to paint for fun. Her dogs, Chico and Chiqui, and cats, Mami and Papi, keep her company while she works and make frequent appearances on team calls.

HK Gilbert brings over 14 years of experience in creating safe and inclusive spaces for young people in outdoor, educational, and afterschool settings. As Senior Manager, Program Services at Camp Fire National Headquarters, HK leads resource support and training initiatives for affiliates nationwide, enhancing program effectiveness and professional development.

With degrees in environmental studies and anthropology, HK has directed programs across multiple youth-serving organizations, including the American Camp Association, Girl Scouts River Valleys, and Camp Fire Minnesota. HK specializes in serving transgender and non-binary youth, building effective Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs, preparing for risk management reviews and accreditation processes, and equipping youth development professionals with evidence-based tools to create authentic environments where all young people can thrive.

Joyce’s work life began with Camp Fire National Headquarters right out of high school. From there, she went on to gain a wide variety of experience working for various organizations, including The Salvation Army, membership associations, and universities. Joyce returned to Camp Fire National Headquarters in 2019 and serves as administrative support to support the mission. Joyce holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. She lives in the Kansas City area near her grown sons and is most likely planning her next adventure.

Val joined Camp Fire in 2019 as part of our accounting team. Some of her core projects include strategizing to implement new policies and procedures in our accounting that will help streamline processes and improve efficiency, too, with Camp Fire's core values and strategic goals. Her notable accomplishments include developing successful financial reporting models on grants, budget reporting, and assisting in successful compliance audits. She lives in Kansas City, MO Val enjoys nature walks with her two dogs, spending time with her two adult children, and her husband of 30 years.

Alexis is a digital marketer and travel content creator with a love for storytelling, community building, and social impact. She first pursued a career in public health, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in the field, before discovering her passion for creative strategy and marketing. That shift led her to Camp Fire, where she now uses her skills in content creation and digital strategy to engage young people and families in meaningful ways. Outside of work, Alexis is an avid solo traveler who inspires young women to explore the world safely and boldly. She also enjoys attending music festivals, reading, and is currently training for her first sprint triathlon.

Monica Puente (she/her) joined Camp Fire National Headquarters as Chief Operating Officer, bringing over 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience in finance, operations, and strategic planning. She has led multimillion-dollar budgets, spearheaded systems modernization efforts, and implemented organization-wide process improvements, all while building strong, mission-aligned teams.

Monica previously worked at Ascend Dallas as Chief Financial Officer, and has held executive leadership roles at Camp Fire First Texas, where she served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, and at Prospanica, a national nonprofit where she partnered with chapters across the country. She also brings a national perspective from her work advising nonprofit organizations through TriNet.

Having previously served within the Camp Fire network, Monica brings a strong understanding of the affiliate model and looks forward to supporting the broader impact of Camp Fire across both the national office and its affiliates.

Outside of work, Monica enjoys spending time with her family, especially as a proud new grandmother, and loves staying active, whether that’s dancing, hosting a fun game night, tackling a jigsaw puzzle, or creating a cool excel template (it’s fun!). Monica is based in Dallas, TX.

Erin brings 18+ years of strategic communications, brand building, storytelling, thought leadership, and marketing leadership across the nonprofit, social entrepreneurship, tech, and philanthropy sectors. She has helped national and global brands, including Fortune 500 companies, maximize their impact, cut through the noise, and provoke the heart for action. Erin has secured and managed high-level partnerships with Warner Bros., Disney Studios/20th Century, Amazon Studios, AOL, Levi’s, Gates Foundation, ONE Campaign, and Teva; her successful track record includes spearheading PR and agency relationships, leveraging social media, cultural trends, and influencers, managing diverse teams, developing talent, and leading campaigns that have reached more than 500 million people. For over a decade she has proudly served on the board for Girls to School.

Erin graduated from Drury University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Media and Global Studies. She joined Camp Fire in May 2017 and resides in Lenexa, Kansas with her two kids, two cats, and life partner.

Nikki Roe Cropp (she/her) has over two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, program delivery and operations, organizational strategy, management, and child safety across local and national youth development and social service organizations. Nikki is an alumna of the American Express Leadership Academy, a global community of high-potential social purpose leaders, and a Certified Nonprofit Professional; she has certifications in abuse risk management and mental health first aid. Nikki represents Camp Fire on the National Alliance of Youth Serving Organizations for Child Protection and serves as a Board and Executive Leadership Team Member for one of the fifty statewide after-school networks, Colorado Afterschool Partnerships. Nikki is passionate about creating conditions where ALL youth can reach their full potential through safe, positive, equitable youth development experiences. Nikki holds a BA in Psychology from Kansas State University and a master’s certificate in Non-profit Management from the University of Texas, Arlington.

Nikki lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her spouse of over 20 years; she is raising two feisty teenagers and two ill-mannered dogs. In her free time, Nikki loves to hike, dance, practice yoga, and make good trouble.

Relationship-oriented and passionate about supporting the success of others, LaShee’ Thomas brings more than two decades of C-suite support, event planning, and accounting and finance experience across multiple sectors. Throughout her career, LaShee’ has helped lead a number of organizational transitions and expansions for national nonprofits and corporations. Previously, LaShee’ worked in accounting for over a decade at one of the  biggest law firm in the U.S., Shook Hardy & Bacon. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Chris serves as staff lead for all IT systems at Camp Fire National Headquarters. He has a background in programming and systems/application support and has worked in the field for 29 years. Prior to Camp Fire, Chris worked as a programmer and IT Manager. He has worked both for-profit and nonprofit and has led initiatives including a community network project in his hometown of Atchison, KS. Chris holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Missouri Western State University.
